Welcome to Jaymarandy Limousin! Located on the south end of the majestic Duck Mountain in Northwestern Manitoba.
The Angus Farm originated with the same modest begins as most Dirty Thirty Era establishments. It was through the shear determination and stubborn nature of Len’s Grandmother, Dorothea Dickens Angus that our current farm was developed. Widowed in 1925 Dorothea’s strong will and young family was the only things that allowed her to continue on through such an unforgiving existence. In 1939 Dorothea packed up her young drought stricken family and moved further North from Elkhorn Manitoba and began what we now call home. The family farm was handed down to Len’s father Bartel, with the next generational move being the purchase of the farm by Len and Ruth purchased in 1975.
With nothing more than vision, hope and the same intestinal fortitude displayed by previous generations the purchase of our first Limousin bull was made in 1979. The program has now developed into a dynamic, contributory member of the Canadian Limousin Association. 2009 has marked an exciting year for the Limousin breed in Canada and also for ourselves as we now get to celebrate our 30th Anniversary as Limousin Breeders. We are proud to be apart of this celebration by contributing 30 strong years to this 40th milestone.
The developmental phases of our herd have in the past and will still in the future utilize with strict selection of American influenced genetics. This strict selection must include everything that is important to our program – Sound, stout, independent cattle. However the last 8 years has seen our entire herd bull battery being comprised of Canadian born bulls. We feel that it is part of our responsibility as members of the Canadian Limousin Association to insure that the Canadian content is strong and stable within our herd throughout this recently past global protectionism phase.
The key to our program is the truly independent cattle. Cows that have proportionally correct, capacious udders that can calve on their own, need no structural modification and have functional ruminant capacity are always the final result.
We have carefully selected and bred Limousin genetics over the years, developing the adequately muscled, docile, structural sound cattle that pasture our fields. We proudly present “The Event” sales annually. We encourage you to browse our website and address our programs ability to suit your needs. The theme “Your Complete Limousin Genetic Source” results from your choices of fullbloods, purebreds and the soon to come Limi-Flex program. Our desire to be a national and global genetic source has guided us to the position where we can offer polled influenced, market specific cattle of Fullblood, Purebred and Limi-Flex origin. Our place as of now is to venture forward futuristically, optimistically and enthusiastically.
We enthusiastically offer congratulations to those responsible for the origination of Limousin in Canada 40 years past, and are excited with our 30 years of continued growth of strong Limousin influenced genetics. If you are passing by our area, please stop by for a coffee and a tour of our program.
